I just got a new trailer from Arkane’s new book. I’ve been wanting to read it, and it’s been hard. I haven’t read the book for so long, so maybe I’ll read it later.
The book is called “The Long List” by Brian De Palma, and it’s about a man who is trying to find the “long list” of reasons to kill himself in order to free his girlfriend from prison. The Long List, as it turns out, is a series of cryptic messages in the sky sent to every survivor on the island.
There is also a film out from the same director, but I cant remember which one.
The Long List is also about a man who has a lot of time on his hands, and is trying to find the list of reasons to stop himself from doing so. This guy is trying to save the lives of his girlfriend, who has been in prison for over a year, and his step brother, an innocent bystander. At one point he is forced to kill a man who has been on the island for years.
One of the most fascinating things about The Long List is the way in which the message is sent. In reality, there are no messages in the sky. The island itself is a small community with a lot of people, but everyone is communicating with each other through their phones. By accident, Colt finds a message in the sky from a survivor on the island asking him to save the town. In reality, he’s been given a bunch of messages to find some way to save the town.
This is a real-world example of a meme in action. It illustrates that the message is sent not because of a sudden flash of insight, but because of the shared experience of the person receiving it. There are several ways in which a message can be shared: via text (e.g. text message), via email, or via phone call.
The person receiving the message likely only knows that someone has sent him the message, not what the message is about. The most successful memes are ones that are clear and easy to see. Like this meme.
So what is the point of sending a message like this to someone? Well, the point is that you are sharing something. The recipient has seen it, and it’s shared. Most of the time, memes only get shared because the writer has given the person the ability to share. But if it is a message that is important enough to share, and is important to the recipient that they’d like to share it with others, then sharing it becomes a kind of ritual.
So when you share something you are basically saying, “Hey, I think this is important, and if you think it’s important, then you have to share it with me.” Then you can expect other people to share it too. The most successful memes are usually those that use the “hey, i guess this is important” mentality.
