The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has revealed that India’s National Immunization Program has banned Pfizer’s vaccine against the highly deadly Zika virus.

Pfizer is one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies in the world, yet they still refuse to take the risk of releasing a vaccine that might prevent the spread of microcephaly, a devastating birth defect that occurs when the brain is too small to contain the fetal fluid. It’s also the leading cause of death in babies under two.

It’s also possible that Pfizer’s decision was influenced by the fact that the vaccine is still available under the “FDA Emergency Use Authorization” program, which means it could be available in the future should outbreaks occur, but it certainly makes a lot of sense.
