This is one of the many dishes that I’ve prepared for a crowd in my restaurant. It’s an easy, quick, and yet flavorful recipe that I have served many times to guests. The evariki cheppadu is based on the Indian dish, but I added the flavor of cilantro and other herbs for added flavor and to add a little extra to the dish.
The dish itself is a combination of rice, lentils, and vegetables cooked to perfection in a small amount of broth. There’s a hint of coconut milk in the dish as well. The flavor of the dish is incredibly rich, and the added flavor of the herbs, cilantro, and chili peppers is very refreshing on my palate.

This is the first time I’ve tried evariki cheppadu and I can say that I’d like to try it just about anywhere I can. The coconut milk broth is very warming and the vegetable-based broth comes together very quickly. The lentil-based broth also seems to work really well and complements the coconut-based broth nicely. The garnish is just as important here and I’m glad that they’ve included the cilantro.
I’m not sure if I like the addition of the coconut milk broth, but Im glad that they included it. The broth seems very similar to a curry based broth, and I like that the addition of coconut milk brings out the coconut flavor. I also liked the garnish, which is just as important as the broth itself. I imagine it’s really sweet, but Im not sure how that could work.
The coconut milk broth is the main part of this dish, and it works well with the other seasonings, but without it Ill have to go with cilantro and the coconut broth.
The garnish, which you can find below, is a very simple addition of cilantro, green onion, garlic, and hot sauce. I added some coconut milk, to bring out the coconut flavor, and I also added some kalicharny ketchup, which is actually a combination of ketchup and mayo, which I found rather strange, but works well nonetheless.
I like to have some sour, spicy cilantro in my diet and a couple of times here I added a couple of drops of hot sauce, but this dish is a little too much for my liking. There’s enough salt and pepper to balance it out, but it doesn’t really match the sourness of the cilantro.
I’m going for a more typical cilantro flavor here, a little more sour and a little less hot. I hope you like it, and I hope it’s a little more authentic.
