In honor of Abhinetri, the Indian Hindu festival of lights, I wanted to share a video of my friend and fellow yogi Raji’s class on how to meditate. The class was designed to be a guided meditation, and Raji is the teacher of the class.

I love Rajis class because Raji’s meditation is exactly what I would want to do if I were in a class like this. I love that I can see through his eyes, and that we get to watch Raji, who is from the same locality as me, doing the same thing I am doing as I read his book. I love that the rest of the class has also been designed to provide an opportunity for Raji to observe me in a similar way.

In the class Raji focuses on a simple exercise that Raji calls the “dance of the spheres.” It’s a dance in which Raji moves his body into every direction of the space between his eyes. For Raji, it’s a dance with all the possibilities of the universe, and it’s always moving. It’s a meditation in the moment, and the point of it is to let Raji watch his thoughts flow through his body as he dances.

Raji is a great teacher, and he is truly unique. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone do the dance of the spheres in class, and I don’t think there is anyone out there who has ever attempted a dance of the spheres in a class of any kind. With Raji, he has made it possible for me to do the dance of the spheres in class.

The dance of the spheres is an ancient and incredibly powerful form of meditation, and Raji has made it possible for me to do it at school. That alone makes it worth the effort.

It’s a shame that Raji teaches the dance of the spheres class (and so many others) in class, because he is a very funny and engaging teacher. The dance of the spheres class is not for beginners, but for those who have an affinity to dance. The dance of the spheres class is a fun way to work on your own balance and coordination, and to learn to do a few forms of exercise. That alone makes it worth the effort.

The class is free to join. And if you can’t make it to the next class (that’s the way it works around here) it’s no problem, because the next class is scheduled for another day. But no matter how busy you are, you can always go to the web portal www.abhinetri.com and register. It’s free too, so it’s worth the trouble.

There are several classes you can pick up to work on balance, flexibility, and flexibility. Just make sure you have a dance partner before you get on the mat. And get yourself a good pair of dance shoes.
